Lathe
A dental lathe is an electric tool that rotates at high speeds and is used for a variety of operations such as cutting, sanding, and polishing. Dental lathes are mounted on a bench or into a polishing unit, and fitted with fine-grit diamond bits and polishing wheels to finish and polish laboratory restorations and appliances prior to being delivered to the patient. Dental Lathes have varying horsepower ranging from ¼ to ¾ HP and can rotate at speeds as high as 3,000 RPM.
Major manufacturers of dental lathes include Baldor, Handler, and Ray Foster.
